VIDEO: The Voigtlander Perkeo I

Over a month ago now, I posted the first serious video on my YT channel, Chronically Photographic. For a video on a channel with just 2 subscribers (at the time, that number has now doubled!) it’s not done so badly. The people who do watch seem to like it just fine, which is surprising.

So I decided I’d crack on with another one. I went on a bit of a crazy spending spree when I decided I’d go back to The Analogue Way. This is the second of 4 currently planned videos; and it’s an out and out 50s classic The Voigtlander Perkeo I. A foldable medium format camera that shoots 6×6 frames on a 120 roll of film.

Many people rave about this camera. It’s pocketable medium format for goodness sake, so I can understand why.

However I came away less enamoured by the image quality, and more by the design and engineering of it. Arguably, most of that is down to me. I made a rookie error on my first roll, and possibly had far too high expectations of the thing in the first place. It is after all, nearly 70 years old. Having just turned 50 myself I know how age can affect quality of output. Be that from an inanimate object or otherwise.

If you want to see what it’s like to use one of these beautiful objects and why I came away less than impressed with mine, then click that video above. You know you want to…
